Civilization IV App Reviews

Failure to Launch

When I upgraded to OS X Yosemite, I found out I wouldn’t be able to play the Civ4 game I downloaded directly from Amazon. I did some research online and found out the ONLY way Civ4 will run on Yosemite is by purchasing the game app directly from the Mac AppStore. I checked compatibility of my MacBook Pro against the game requirements. No issues were reported. I paid the $19.99 and began the download. The download appears in the Launchpad UNTIL the download is complete. Once the download is complete, the download disappears entirely. Conducting a search of files on my Mac did not result in locating the Civ4 app, I reached out to Asypr and to date no response has been received. Don’t waste your money on this app if you upgraded to Yosemite; it fails to launch. Time to call Apple for a refund.

Very disappointing

As the graphics have improved, the game’s stability has suffered. About 10% of the time, the game opens into ASCII text and will not load at all. Now the game crashes repeatedly after only 6 months. Huge waste of money.

Doesn’t work properly in Yosemite

Despite assurances from Aspyr that the game purchased via the App Store will work, the game does not function properly in Yosemite. It worked perfectly in Mavericks.

… might be fun?

As a kid the Age of Empires game provided me with hours of entertainment. Now, as an occasionally bored adult, I was looking for a similar game to pass some unused minutes between responiblities… this was not a good choice. Dont get me wrong, Im sure this game is very fun, but you will need hours of time just to even figure out how to play it. I played for about 20 minutes and turned it off thinking I would need a college level course, or a Webster sized manual just to learn the basics of gameplay… time, unfortunately, I just dont have. After taking a few more cracks at it Im close to uninstalling, the game is just too daunting for a guy like me who doesnt consider himself a "gamer" … just a guy who occasionally plays games. My advice would be to only purchase this game if you have boatloads of time on your hands, and an equal measure of patience!
